Caroline Larsen is an emerging artist working in Toronto. Her work is trademarked by the heavy use of intricately thick woven paint. Central in all of the painted work is the various ways in which she applies paint to the canvas. The heavy use of paint leaves the canvas lushly covered in colour and the painstaking piping of paint leaves a meticulous and delicate surface. Playing with extreme texture and elements of optical illusion, Larsen is able to create juxtaposition between representational and abstract. Larsen is a graduate of the University of Waterloo’s Fine Art Department. She has shown her work at the Angell Gallery in Toronto and has exhibited internationally as well.
